IWC iPhone App

IWC iPhone App

IWC has joined the ranks of other luxury watch brands and recently launched its very own iPhone app. This app, free of charge, can be downloaded in one of six language and is perfect for IWC enthusiasts, or for anyone looking for a great gadget-related app. A great feature of the app is a “Try-It” function where the iPhone user can “try on” watches from IWC and virtually see how the timepiece would look on their wrist.

Further, the IWC iPhone app features all the functionality of the IWC website, now mobile-friendly. Users can learn more about the different technical features of IWC watches such as depth gauges, digital calendars, power reserve, moon phase and time recorders.
In a great app feature, IWC offers users the ability to take a snapshot of their wrist and upload it to the site, wherein they can see how a specific watch would look on them. It’s like a virtual dressing room for watch lovers!
In addition to these great features, the IWC iPhone app does what every sensible marketing-driven app would do; it points the user towards the nearest retail location. Using the iPhone’s GPS capabilities, the IWC app will guide the user from their current direction straight to the nearest IWC retailer.

IWC Intent On Ecological Responsibility

Conservancy-Related Watch

Conservancy-Related Watch

IWC may be a fine watchmaker, but they also know that their watches are carried by their customers on the high seas. They are now entering the realm of “ecological responsibility.” The issue of pollution in the world’s oceans and oceanic wildlife habitats is of growing concern to environmentalists and marine biologists as well as individuals and companies. It has been reported that over 100 million tons of plastic are produced every year, an estimated 10 per cent of which ends up at the bottom of the ocean. Other debris such as tires, cans are also negatively affecting the underwater wildlife. As plastic breaks down, it becomes detrimental to coral, turtles who mistake plastic for jellyfish, as well as sea birds and other aquatic mammals.

While the problem has been growing, it’s growth has also incited the involvement of several organizations, including IWC. IWC has recently decided to embark upon a “social and ecological responsbility policy” as a continuation to their global efforts at nature conservancy. As a part of this program, IWC released five diving watches: the Deep Two, the 18k Red Gold Aquatimer Chronograph, the Aquatimer Automatic 200, and the Chronograph Edition Galapagos Islands. These watches all feature highly functional features, such as the 200 bar pressure resistance of the Aquatimer Automatic 200, that endear them to diving enthusiasts.

IWC Opens Factory To Tourists

IWC Watch

IWC Watch

IWC has built its reputation on fine craftsmanship and incredible quality. A glimpse inside the factory located in Switzerland reveals previously -unknown secrets to the watchmaker’s success. While automated machines cut the various pieces from titanium or steel to create their unique watches, they also employ master craftsmen to work on the more intricate details of each timekeeper.

IWC was founded in 1868 by F.A. Jones of America. Jones sought to combine the legacy of Swiss watchmakers with the ever-evolving progress of industry. IWC now offers more than 30 different watch models, topping out with a staggering $1 million price point. The company is no longer helmed by Jones, but owned by Cie. Financiere Richmont via an acquisition in 2000. On the banks of the Rhine river, over 300 individuals work at IWC to create its famed pieces. The IWC factory was nearly leveled during World War II when an American bomb was accidentally sent through the building’s rafters, but failed to detonate. Watchmakers work in huddled clumps and are protected from tourists by windows, but one wonders if this doesn’t increase distractions. IWC manufactures all watch elements on site except the hands, dials and bracelets.
